Two South Ridge Public School athletes recently competed at the Ontario Track and Field Finals in Mississauga.

Grade 4 students at South Ridge, Tillsonburg's Nolan McCrossin and Reegan Lindy started their journey at their own school track and field meet on May 12. They both won their events, sending them on to compete at Annandale School against other Tillsonburg and Ingersoll area schools. Once again, Nolan and Reegan came out on top, winning their events and qualifying for the Thames Valley District Track and Field Region Finals at TD Stadium in London.

In London, Reegan competed in the long jump and 100 metre sprint, finishing first in both events, while Nolan competed in softball throw, finishing a close second.

Their performance earned both athletes a spot at the Ontario Hershey Track and Field Finals in Mississauga. Competing against athletes from across Ontario, Nolan and Reegan faced their biggest challenge yet.

In the 100 metre sprint, Reegan finished 3rd in her qualifying heat, then 9th overall in the final (in a field of 19). She also competed in standing long jump, a different technique than she had competed in previously, and finished 3rd overall.

After finishing second in London, Nolan was looking for redemption in the ball throw. He did just that, beating his top competitor from London to finish first overall. Nolan now waits to find out if his provincial first place finish was enough to earn him a spot on the North American Hershey Team which will compete in Pennsylvania.
