TPL seeking Friends of the Library

Article content

Tillsonburg Public Library is looking for interested individuals to join our Friends of the Library Group! The role of the Friends is to advocate on behalf of the Library Board for support of the library, to hold special events, to assist staff through the provision of volunteer help, to undertake any approved fundraising projects, and to advise the library board on ways to improve library service to the community.

Currently, the group is meeting monthly as it gets off the ground, and a fairly minimal time commitment is required. If you are interested in supporting and advocating for your local library, we would love to hear from you!

For more information or an application, please contact Sydnie Lane, Branch Supervisor.

Looking for something to do with the kids on the weekends? Stop in on the second Saturday of each month for a family film. Saturday, April 12 features a little pig named Wilbur who befriends a kind spider living in his stall in the barn. The film starts at 1 p.m. and we will have popcorn available – don’t forget your drink! Remember, all kids age 10 and under must have an adult in the library during the film.

April brings the return of laughter yoga. Starting Monday, April 21 at 6:30 p.m. instructor Gail Kavelman is back to lead you in a series of stretches, all while laughing your stress away. If you’re looking for something new, why not try this fun, drop-in program?

Older adults looking for a gentler exercise option may be interested in the VON SMART program being offered every Tuesday and Thursday at 1 p.m. All exercises are done while seated or with the use of a chair for stability and are taught by a trained instructor. For more information, contact the library or the VON at 519-539-1231.

Local author Elaine Cougler will be joining us on Thursday, April 10 at 7 p.m. for an author reading and discussion of her acclaimed novel, The Loyalist’s Wife. Support local talent, and come out to meet and chat with Elaine; this promises to be a fun-filled evening! Light refreshments will be served. Please phone the library to register for the program. The library is also excited to announce a series of poetry workshops with published poet Julie Berry. The workshops will be held on the second Tuesday of the month from April through June, and will focus on developing your writing as a poet and building connections with others who love poetry.

This fantastic program starts on Tuesday, April 8 at 7 p.m. Please contact the library to register for the session, and check out Julie’s website, julieberry.ca to learn about this talented writer.

For more information or to register for library programs, contact us by phone at 519-842-5571. For a complete listing of our upcoming programs, see our website ocl.net for more information.
