The Tillsonburg District Chamber of Commerce (TDCC) is welcoming nominations for the annual Citizen of the Year Award. The award is presented to an individual who makes an outstanding contribution to the community, with no expectation of personal gain. Volunteering of personal time and talent towards community betterment are hallmarks of the award. Nominees can be recommended either for outstanding contributions to the community in the past year, or over a number of years. Nomination forms are available from the TDCC (519-688-3737). Nominations received within the previous year will be re-considered for this year’s award. Deadline for nomination is Friday, March 28, 2014.

The Tillsonburg Legion is serving a Meat Loaf Supper from 5 p.m. as quantities last. Adults $12 and pre-teens $6 includes dessert. Take out available. Cash bar. Wheelchair accessible. Everyone as always welcome "down at the Legion" at 16 Durham Street.

Landscape designer and horticultural consultant Denise Hodgins will be the guest speaker at the April 1 General Meeting of the Tillsonburg Horticultural Society. 'Who are the Strangers in Your Lawn and Garden?' is the title of the presentation. Start time is 7:30 p.m. in the Senior Centre Auditorium at the Tillsonburg Community Centre. An annual membership in the Society costs $15. Admission for non-members is $2. Everyone welcome.

Tillsonburg Lioness Club's Ladies Night Out, "Winter's Final Fling" on Thursday, April 3 at the Lions Auditorium, Tillsonburg Community Centre, 45 Hardy Street. Tillsonburg Skating Club Ice Show 2014: The World of Animation at the Tillsonburg Complex. Shows Friday, April 4 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, April 5 at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. Admission $10 for Ages 13 to Adult, $5 for 4-12, 3 and under free. Doors open one hour prior to show time. See many of your favourite animated characters from movies and television.

April 5

Co-Ed valleyball tournament at Glendale in support of Childcan, an organization that helps children and their families cope with a diagnosis of cancer with emotional, financial and social support. Tournament begins at 8:45 a.m. sharp, with co-ed 6’s recreational; and co-ed 6’s competitive divisions. At least two males and two females must be on the court at all times. An evening with Ron Morrish, international author, speaker, consultant on behaviour and discipline. beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the Annandale School gymnasium. This event is free of charge to the public and is presented by Annandale School Council through the Parent Involvement Grant. All community parents, caregivers, teachers, EA's and youth workers are invited for an opportunity to learn how to discipline

The Livingston Centre is hosting information sessions on April 8 and 9 from 5-7 p.m. at The Livingston Centre (96 Tillson Ave.) in conjunction with volunteer week about the wide range of volunteer opportunities the Tillsonburg & District Multi-Service Centre (MSC) has available The centre is looking for individuals interested in learning more about the wide range of flexible and rewarding volunteer opportunities available including: Adult Literacy - tutor an adult - to improve reading and writing skills; Board of Directors - provide MSC staff with direction through good governance; fundraising committee member - assist with the planning and operation of MSC fundraising events; Meals on Wheels - deliver hot meals and a smile over lunch hour to elderly folks; and transportation - give a ride to someone without a driver’s license to medical appointments, social outings, and so on, for which fuel reimbursement is provided. Coffee or tea and light snacks will be shared during conversation with program coordinators and members of the existing volunteer contingent.

Mitford Tea at St. John’s Anglican Church, Tillsonburg (corner of Bidwell & Ridout). Inspired by Jan Karon’s Mitford novels, with recipes from her Mitford Cookbook and Kitchen Reader, members of St. John’s Outreach committee will serve tea and goodies (including gluten-free) from 1-3 p.m. Tickets at the door are $6.
