Article content

That's right students, March Break has finally arrived and is starting next Monday! Don't forget that Friday is a PA Day too! That's right... only four days of school this week and ALL of next week off! I love March Break, don't you?

Have you decided what you are either giving up or changing of yourself for Lent? Well you better hurry up...because Lent is TODAY. Today is Ash Wednesday, which marks the beginning of Lent. There are tons of options to choose from, for example, give up TV, computer, video games, do more chores, and/or help your parents or siblings. Just make sure whatever you choose is something out of the ordinary for you, something that isn't easy to give up or start doing. After all, the reason we do this is so that we recognize what Jesus did for us: He sacrificed His life for our sins to be forgiven.

A big thank you to our snack program volunteers for making us such a yummy pancake snack yesterday to celebrate Shrove Tuesday. Those pancakes were delicious.

A huge congratulations to Mackenzie Squires who won first place for public speaking at the Legion. Mackenzie will move on to speak with the top contestants from Oxford County. Her speech was absolutely beautiful and motivational. Saturday's competition was full of really great speakers. Congratulations to all of the students who were chosen to compete from Monsignor O'Neil and St. Joe's; you all did a really great job and should be proud of yourselves.

Ms. Mair, Mrs. Rayner, and Mrs. Van Daele took almost half of our school population to the gymnastics meet last week. We had great representation from Monsignor O'Neil School at this annual event in London.

Our Winter Carnival was a huge success too - the Polar Vortex eased up just enough last week so that our school could celebrate winter with tug of war, obstacle course, hockey, and many other winter events. Thanks, Madame Rigby, for organizing it all!

Do not forget Food Service orders are due by 10 a.m. on Thursday, March 6th. Also do not forget to turn your clocks ahead one hour on Saturday for daylight savings time. This is also a good time to remember to change the batteries in your smoke detectors!

Have a safe and happy March Break.
