FEBRUARY

February 8

The Tillsonburg Christian Men’s Fellowship’s breakfast at the Eden Community Centre, just west of Highway #19, Eden. Doors open at 8 a.m., program begins at 8:30 a.m. Guest music provided by the Kingsway Quartet. Bring your special lady and hear what God can do in the lives of those who let Him.

Winter Fun Day at Backus Heritage Conservation Site, beginning at 1 p.m. Enjoy an afternoon of wintry activities, visit the Conservation Education Centre to view the wildlife displays and warm up with a cup of hot chocolate. Join Outdoor Educator Fiona Street for some wintry crafts between 1 and 3 p.m. Embrace the snow this winter by trying snowshoeing. A snowshoe demonstration takes place at 1:30 p.m. After this quick lesson, snowshoes will be provided for anyone to try on and test their skills on an obstacle course. A limited number of snowshoes will be available to borrow between 1:30 and 3 p.m. Learn seasonal survival tips at 2:30 p.m. and then take the shelter-building challenge. See who can build the warmest shelter using snow, tarps or debris. All activities end at 3 p.m. with the Conservation Education Centre and park gates closing at 4 p.m. Admission to the Winter Fun Day special event is $2 per child, $4 per adult or $10 for a family. In case of inclement weather, only those programs taking place indoors will be available.

Tillsonburg's Royal Canadian Legion Branch 153: presents a Valentine's Sweetheart Brunch on Sunday, Feb. 9, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Royal Canadian Legion, 16 Durham Street, Tillsonburg. Adults $10, Children $5 (10-and-under). Flowers for the first 100 ladies.

Come Bloom With Us: Those with green thumbs will not want to miss the Drumbo Agricultural Society’s “Come Bloom with Us” event on Sunday, Feb. 9, from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Drumbo Agricultural Hall, Drumbo.

Otter Valley Naturalists: meet Monday, Feb. 10 at Port Burwell Public School, 7 p.m. Dr. Stanley Caveney of the Thames Talbot Land Trust will present The Lake Erie Coastal Ravines Program.

February 14

Valentine's Day Youth Dance: at the Tillsonburg Soccer Club for youth in Grades 6 to 8 from 7-10 p.m. Admission $10. Snacks and refreshments available for purchase. Door prizes. Chaperoned by the Tillsonburg Skating Club.

Community Living Tillsonburg: will host its 41st Annual Valentine Luncheon & Bazaar on Friday, February 14 from 11 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. at Avondale United Church, 60 Harvey Street, Tillsonburg. Soup, sandwiches and pie will be served. Tickets: Adults $7, Children $3, five-and-under free. Proceeds to support services for Children and Adults with Intellectual Disabilities.

Annandale National Historic Site Family Day Scavenger Hunt from 10 a.m.– 3 p.m. Bring your family out to and join in on the 7th Annual Family Day Scavenger Hunt any time after 10 a.m. Families pick up a question sheet and head into the Museum and community to get the answers to all the questions, plus bring in scavenger hunt items. Families must come back to the Museum with their completed forms and items before 3 p.m. for their chance to win prizes that day. Family registration fee $5 (at least 1 adult required per registration). First Prize: $60 Gift Certificate to Kelsey’s Tillsonburg. Second Prize: Family Game Night Gift Pack. ‘Main Street Oxford’ Annandale National Historic Site Exhibit Opening, 10 a.m.- 4 p.m. Come and explore this wonderful banner exhibit featuring historic images of Oxford County's main streets, including vintage shots of Tillsonburg's Broadway. Running February 17th to May 18th.

The Tllsonburg & District Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m. in the Program Room, second Floor, Annandale House. The topic will be "Oxford Remembers - Oxford's Own Project," about the events being planned in Oxford County for the 100th Anniversary of WWI by guest speaker Patricia Phelps. Refreshments to follow. Feb. 20

Great Soup Kitchen: at St. Paul's United Church, Tillsonburg, 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Please come for lunch, $7 per person. This luncheon, an annual fundraiser for the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario, is made possible by the generosity of local businesses and restaurants. February 22

Winter Owl Prowl at Backus Heritage Conservation site. Learn interesting facts about owls on a guided night walk with Outdoor Educator Fiona Street. Families are invited to arrive at 6 p.m. to take part in a special owl craft activity, examine an owl pellet and view wildlife displays. The Owl Prowl program begins with a slide presentation inside the Conservation Education Centre at 6:30 p.m., followed by a walk through the woods at 7 p.m. to look and listen for owls, including Eastern Screech or a Great-Horned Owl. Admission is $2 per child, $4 per adult or $10 for a family. Pre-registration is recommended as spaces are limited. Participants are encouraged to wear appropriate footwear and clothing for snow-covered trails. In the event of inclement weather, only the indoor portions of the Owl Prowl program will be offered.

February 25

The Tillsonburg Community Garden Committee will meet at 12 noon at the Tillsonburg Helping Hand Food Bank. Everyone welcome!

The Community Probus Club of Tillsonburg meets at 10 a.m. in the Lions Den at the Community Centre. Guest speaker will be Jean Park who is going to talk on "The Fibres of my Life." There will be a Free Blood Pressure Clinic at the Tillsonburg Seniors Centre from 9-11 a.m. Everyone welcome.

St, Paul's United Church is offering a daytime “Wilderness Escape" for children ages 5-12, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The adventure starts on March 7, and continues March 10 to March 14. Explore the Sinai desert, meet Moses, go through the Red Sea, make lots of neat crafts, sing active, exciting songs and lots of other surprises in their own "tribe". Cost is $10 per day. Tillsonburg Senior Centre Singers: directed by Rachel Parker, hold their annual Spring Concert of Broadway and contemporary tunes on Friday, May 2, at 7:30 p.m. in the Lions Auditorium of the Tillsonburg Community Centre, Hardy Avenue. Tickets $12, avaiable from singers or at the Senior Centre (519-688-2520). Tillsonburg Senior Centre Singers, SATB Choir, share their love of music with the public and help those less fortunate in the world by donating a portion of ticket sales to Grandmothers to Grandmothers, connected to the Stephen Lewis Foundation (AIDS).
