The World is a Stage

Get ready to mark up your calendars as there are a lot of events coming up, you don’t want to miss.

Now if you like showers… the present kind, not the rain or bath kind, you are going to love this event and at the same time you will do a log of good. The Women of Tillsonburg’s St. John’s Anglican Church would like to invite you to a shower for Inn Out of the Cold.

Inn Out of the Cold is a Joint Ecumenical shelter program that aims to protect homeless people from freezing to death during the winter months. The program is run by Operation Sharing and Old St. Paul’s Anglican Church in Woodstock. Seven nights a week, from mid-November until the end of March, the program offers homeless people a warm, safe, and welcoming refuge in the basement of Old St. Paul’s parish hall.

These are homeless people who bring little or nothing with them so much is needed to keep them comfortable while they are there and give them a hand before they leave. So, decide from the list below what you would like to give. Wrap it up inexpensively (no names or cards), bring it to the shower, and then you all get the fun of randomly unwrapping too!

Gifts can include: Tim Hortons gift cards; food: ground coffee, coffee-mate, hot chocolate, tea, sugar, peanut butter, jam, dry cereal, snacks (microwave), clothing (adult male & female), socks/slippers, track pants/windbreakers. Note: used clothing is fine.

Guests at Inn Out of the Cold sleep on mattresses on the floor. Personal items can include: toothbrushes, toothpaste, mouthwash, shaving cream, razors, facecloths, towels, cough candies. Cleaning Supplies: paper towels, cleansers, air fresheners, laundry detergent, toilet paper, soft soap, hand cleanser.

The shower for Inn Out of the Cold is Saturday, Feb. 1 at St. John’s Parish Hall, Ridout St. W., Tillsonburg from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. noon. Come, and bring a friend for refreshments and fellowship.

Annandale National Historic Site (ANHS) has a list of Coming Events and it is fantastic, so sharpen that pencil!

Okay guys, you may not want to take your sweetie here but you could give her a ticket for herself and a friend! Friday, Feb. 14, 2-4 p.m. Valentine Tea & Talk. Tea and sweets followed by a talk featuring Valentine cards from the Museum’s collection. Patricia Phelps, lecturer. Advance tickets only $15.

Monday, Feb. 17, 10-3 pm Family Day Scavenger Hunt. A great fun-filled family activity, prizes to be won. Family registration fee $5.

Friday, March 7, 12–2 p.m. Women’s Day Lunch & Lecture. Enjoy a four-course meal and decadent dessert (I hope there is chocolate), followed by a lecture on Oxford’s Woman of Infamy or The Lady Who Broke the American National Bank. Mary Gladwin, Archivist, County of Oxford, lecturer. Advance tickets only $30.

I am going to list the very popular Lunch and Learn Series which ANHS puts on every year although, I am sad to say it is already sold out, with a long waiting list. However, if you are interested get your name on that list, especially if you can be called an hour before with a cancellation… or if enough people are on the list, Patty might be able to run a second date for a couple of the lunches. That depends if the lecturers charge for their lecture and can do a second lecture, and caterers are available, and a host of other issues... but hey, you never know.

Friday, Feb. 28, 12–2 p.m. Lunch & Learn. The first in a four-part series of tasty lunches and historical lectures. Topic: Sister Aimee - Media, Message, Mission. The Story of Salford’s Aimee Semple McPherson. Olwyn Coughlin, lecturer. Advance tickets only.

March 28, 12-2 p.m. Lunch & Learn. Second in a four-part series of tasty lunches & historical lectures. Oysters, Ice Cream & Chicken Pie Suppers - What was on the table in 19th Century Rural Ontario. Dr. Rebecca Beausaert, lecturer. Advance tickets only.

April 25, 12-2 p.m. Lunch & Learn. Third in a four-part series of tasty lunches & historical lectures. From Dance Hall to Victorian Manor - The Museum’s Story. Patricia Phelps, lecturer. Advance tickets only.

May 23, 12-2 p.m. Lunch & Learn. Fourth and final in a four-part series of lunches and historical lectures. More Tales from the Tombstones. Laurel Beechey, lecturer. Advance tickets only.

Series Pass $70 or Single Pass $20. Please call Marie or Patty at the museum at 519-842-2294 and get your lunch/tea booked today. Ask questions and pick up their Calendar of Events which includes a lot more than what I have written about… like a WWI exhibit!
