December 25

Merry Christmas from The Tillsonburg News!

Feast of Friends at the Salvation Army Church, Concession Street West. Full Christmas meal, carol sing, shared fellowship begins at 2 p.m., open to all, free of charge. For more information or to arrange a ride, please call 519-842-4447.

December 31

New Year's Celebrations in downtown Tillsonburg, culminating at the clock tower for a midnight countdown into the new year, celebrated with a fireworks show. The evening features public skating until 10 p.m. when events begin downtown. Free hot chocolate, apple cider, music, dancing, a warming station and activities for all ages.

New Year’s Eve Dinner and Dance at the Tillsonburg Minor Soccer Park Clubhouse, a fundraising event for the 2014 U14 Boys L6 Team. Doors opens at 6 p.m., all-you-care-to-eat buffet at 7 p.m. by Beres Catering. $40 per person includes midnight champagne and party favours. Tickets available by calling Kathy 519-842-6900 or Angela 519-688-6048. Dress code no jeans.

JANUARY

January 1

The Royal Canadian Legion in Tillsonburg invites everyone to share New Year’s Day afternoon and ‘Happy New Year’ salutations at the President's Levee. Freewill donation only. Moose milk and clam chowder. Cash bar. DJ and dancing. Light luncheon later. Wheelchair access. 12 noon to 6 p.m. at the legion.

January 5

Haldimand-Norfolk MPP Toby Barrett will be hosting his annual New Year’s Levee from 2-4 p.m. at ‘The Winding Hill’ farm (311 Cockshutt Road, Port Dover) of Cari and Toby Barrett. All constituents and members of the media are invited to come and enjoy hot cider and goodies.

January 7

The Tillsonburg Horticultural Society meets in the Senior Centre Auditorium at the Tillsonburg Community Centre for its first general meeting of 2014, starting at 7:30 p.m. Guest speaker will be Lynn Bisschop from Shades of Green south of Aylmer talking about Hostas and Lilies. An annual membership in the Horticultural Society is $15. Memberships for 2014 will be available at the meeting.

January 10

The Tillsonburg Station Arts Centre’s Changing Gallery welcomes the Stationhouse Quilters and Fibre Artists for their first showing, which runs through until February 4. The exhibit opening runs from 7-9 p.m. Friday, January 3, with artisans on hand to discuss technique used to create their timeless pieces.

January 12

Tillsonburg Mayor John Lessif and the Tillsonburg & District Historical Society are hosting the Mayor’s Levee from 2-4 p.m. inside the Annandale National Historic Site, home of the town’s first mayor, Edwin Delevan Tillson. Interested persons are invited to drop by, mingle with the mayor and members of council and share congratulations or concerns over refreshments.
