Norfolk OPP is encouraging parents and caregivers to remind children of safety rules for this upcoming Halloween.
· Look both ways before crossing the street.
· Cross the street only at corners if possible.
· Don’t hide or cross the street between parked cars
· Wear light coloured reflective-type clothing so you are visible.
· Plan your route and share it with your family.
· Go with an adult or someone older.
· Carry a flashlight to light your way.
· Only visit homes that have a porch light on.
· Accept your treats at the door and never go into a stranger’s house.
· Use face paint rather than masks or things that will cover your eyes.
· Be cautious of animals and strangers.
· Have a grown-up inspect your treats before eating. Don’t eat any candywhile out trick-or-treating, especially if the package is already opened.
Halloween isn't a night where just the young forget about potentially dangerous situations; many adults attend costume parties where alcohol is being served but fail to take the necessary precautions to get home safely.
“If you are attending a party with the intention to drink, please plan ahead, make arrangements to get a ride with a designated driver, taxi service or plan to stay overnight,” said Norfolk OPP Constable Ed Sanchuk.
