It's a fair weekend in Tillsonburg

Tillsonburg’s 159th Tri-County Agricultural Fair kicks off this afternoon at the fairgrounds with the gates opening at 4 p.m. The fair buildings and Carter Shows midway also open Thursday at 4.
Opening ceremonies will be held at 6 p.m. in the Kinsmen Memorial ‘Vendor’ Arena, followed by the crowning of the 2013 Mini King and Queen, Tri-County Fair Ambassador, and the Junior Ambassador.
Thursday night’s entertainment features two country singers – Chelsea Crites at 6:30 p.m. and Scott Skirving at 7:30 p.m.
Gates open Friday at 3 p.m. Check out the fair buildings - including the Otter Valley Poultry and Pigeon Club’s annual show – and the midway with games, rides and fair food.
The Big Creek Tractor Pullers Association begins its annual Tillsonburg competition at 7 p.m. on the racetrack.
Saturday is ‘KID’S DAY’ at the fair with gates opening at 9 a.m. There will be a baby show at 10 a.m. in the arena, and a pet show at 11 a.m.
Saturday’s midway opens at 11 a.m.
The local 4-H Club’s Showmanship Showing begins in the cattle barn at 12 p.m.
Also at noon Saturday, the reptile show (12-4 p.m.) begins in the arena.
Paul Behnke, a popular kids entertainer, will perform in the arena from 11 a.m.-2 p.m.
FREE ICE CREAM
Back for its second year, a FREE ice cream eating contest (for both kids and adults!) and a bubble gum contest in the arena at 1 p.m.
The Canadian Raptors Bird Show will have shows at 12, 2 and 4 p.m.
Local Girl Guides will be doing face painting for the kids in the arena throughout the day.
BACK IN BLACK!
Two rock tribute bands perform Saturday night – Toronto's For Those About to Rock, the ultimate Canadian tribute to AC/DC, plays from 6:30-8 p.m. in front of the portable grandstand.
Keep the Faith, a Bon Jovi tribute band, will be on stage from 8:30-10 p.m.
Gates open Sunday at 11 a.m. Check out the reptile show in the arena from 1-5 p.m.
Thrill Show Productions returns for a 6 p.m. Demolition Derby to wrap up the 2013 Tillsonburg Tri-County Agricultural Fair.

NEW THIS YEAR
Free kids games – golf (putting), bean bag toss, plinko and more can be played by all kids accompanied by an adult for prizes.
Decorate a derby car – kids and adults can decorate a car to be driven in this year’s derby.
Tickets can be purchased ($10) for a chance to drive the decorated derby car (must be 18 and over).
