Lots of smiles and high fives were present Saturday at the 2nd Annual COPA for Kids Day (Canadian Owners and Pilot Association) at the Tillsonburg Regional Airport.

Local pilots flew 80 kids on Saturday, June 22. Last year, they piloted 76 kids around the area. The flights are approximately 20 minutes in duration. In order to qualify, participants have to be between the ages of 8-17 and never flown in a small aircraft.

COPA encourages Canadian airports to promote flying through the COPA for Kids program (www.copaforkids.org) by providing free insurance for all participants, pilots and volunteers.

All flights were free of charge and kindly donated by local pilots and the airport. It is a great way to initiate young people to the science of flight! As of December 2012, a total of 10,121 Junior Aviators have flown as part of the COPA for Kids program throughout Canada.

The next COPA for Kids will be held June 21, 2014 and registration will begin in the early spring. Local organizers are targeting 181 kids to be flown that day, representing COPA Club Flight 181 at the Tillsonburg Regional Airport.

If you are interested in becoming a member, contact the airport at 519-842-2929. Membership is $25/yr or $40/yr for a family.
