Fancy hats, good fun at annual UCW tea party

The basement of the Delhi United Church was draped in linens and soft lights during the church's second annual tea party.

Round tables were covered with platters of sweet treats and bite-sized sandwiches as women wearing their best fancy hats chatted throughout the afternoon on Saturday.

“We invite people to dress up and wear their hats and have a nice relaxing afternoon of tea, sandwiches and sweets,” said organizer Barbara Paterson. “It is a real group effort. All of the ladies in the UCW have contributed.”

The women were treated to a sampling of gourmet tea selections provided by the Pastime Emporium.

While there were many members of the UCW and church community present, the tea party also drew in guests from as far away as Grimsby.

“It is just a chance to get together with our friends,” said Paterson.

The tea party, hosted by the United Church Women, started last year as a fundraiser for the organization's 50th anniversary.

“It was quite a success,” said Paterson.

This year funds will be set aside for the number of community initiatives the group supports.
