The Delhi Community Health Centre will celebrate its 10th anniversary on July 10 of this year.

“We have come a long way in 10 years. With your ongoing support and generosity, the centre would not be able to reach its full potential and be a centre of excellent primary care in the rural community,” Sue Pettit, chair of the DCHC board, told the crowd at the Delhi and District Chamber of Commerce's annual general meeting on May 1 at the Polish Hall.

The community-owned, non-profit organization continues to see the centre grow.

The centre's lab averages 1,300 patients a month, the walk-in clinic services 600 to 700 patients each month and there are over 10,000 rosters patients that are seen by the family physicians.

The centre's team also continues to grow.

A geriatrician has recently been recruited to visit Delhi once a month to see referred patients and the family health team has a new physician in Port Rowan, Dr. Sarah Johnston. She is currently accepting new patients.

In Delhi, patients are being accepted by physicians from the waiting list.

Pettit also gave an update on phase three of the expansion project.

The expansion will increase the footprint of the health centre from 7,500 square feet to 12,500 square feet.

The former TD Bank on King Street will be demolished to create a parking lot while the former pool hall beside it will be retrofitted for medical use and linked to the health centre with a connector building.

The project comes with a $1.5 million price tag.

A committee has been formed to oversee the project.

“We are looking forward to your feedback and discussion on our future plans,” said Pettit.

A community forum will be held at the Delhi Legion on May 28 at 7 p.m. The public is invited to attend.
