Keeping downtown Tillsonburg beautiful

Seven pairs of helping hands are sweeping Tillsonburg off its feet.

The Tillsonburg area BIA (Business Improvement Area), through Virginia Armstrong, has partnered with Community Living Tillsonburg, via Nancy John, to help clean up downtown Tillsonburg.

The BIA’s ongoing mandate is revitalization of the downtown area. So when Armstrong wanted to partner with a local organization in an effort to clean up its streets, Community Living Tillsonburg seemed like a perfect match.

“We noticed that there was a large amount of garbage left in the downtown, especially after weekends,” said Armstrong.

Community Living Tillsonburg responded to the call, and since fall of 2012, volunteers from the organization can be seen in their bright red vests, selflessly sweeping downtown sidewalks.

The group cleaning up is strictly volunteers coordinated through Community Living and the BIA.

“It’s a great service to the town, and it’s a way of giving back to the community,” said John.

John and Armstrong, as well as Frank Benke, Matthew Hoogsteen, Tim Small, Vivian Hahn and Tim Belyea, have been working very hard at keeping Tillsonburg’s downtown as clean and beautiful as it deserves to be. Their efforts are both noted and appreciated, said Armstrong.

The group would like to give citizens a gentle reminder to clean up after their dogs, as per Town of Tillsonburg by-laws.
