Faith fair

This year our school is doing a faith fair, where students in each class have a certain topic about our religion that they research and create a project on. These projects will be showcased during education week.

In Mrs. Dewaele’s Grade 6/7 class they have chosen a variety of topics. The Grade 6s are researching peacemakers; organizations that promote peace in our world. Then students will be creating a personal reflection on how each can personally be peacemakers in their school and community.

The Grade 7 students are researching modern day Catholic saints and thinking how saints can inspire them to show their catholic faith. We received many positive comments on the Faith Fair from the students in Mrs. Dewaele’s class such as:

“It teaches us about our religious faith.” –Rache

“It helps us to learn about social injustice and what we can do about it.” –Emily

“We learned about our Catholic faith and what it means to us.” – Courtney

“I get to learn about saints and what they did to help our world.” –Anonymous

“It was a good learning experience.” –Dakota

As well, Mrs. Dewaele has started incorporating technology into her lessons. She believes it is important to use these assets. She tries to use Active Board as often as possible. It is important to engage the students of today with technology. In health, her students are learning about bullying and harassment. They are thinking about how they can be better people and how to deal with bullies.

Mrs. Dewaele runs many different activities at Sacred Heart School including our Students’ Council, popcorn days, spirit days, and Ma Razzo’s food days. This coming month she has organized Jump Rope for Heart and Hoops for Heart. The kickoff date for both of those is May 1.

The kindergarten to Grade 6 students will be skipping for Jump Rope for Heart, and the Grades 7 and 8 students are shooting basketballs in the Hoops for Heart.

Mrs. Dewaele tells us there are three reasons why we do this fundraiser. The first and most important is that it raises money for Heart and Stroke foundation of Canada. The second equally-important reason is the fundraising points go towards new gym equipment for our school. Lastly, the students are able to earn prizes depending on how much money they raise.

Students get lots of exercise and raise money at the same time for a worthy cause. We hope you pledge to someone in our school!
