Vigilant citizen call results in charges

Charges have resulted from the actions of a vigilant Port Burwell citizen.

March 13, 2013 at approximately 4:41 a.m., Elgin County OPP responded to a suspicious persons call in the lakeside community. A complaint was received from a vigilant citizen who had observed two persons acting suspiciously, while looking into parked vehicles.

The investigation led to the arrest of two males. The males, one youth and one adult, are alleged to be responsible for entering vehicles overnight throughout the village of Port Burwell. A small amount of stolen property has been recovered.

The males have been charged in relation to the thefts. They were both released on Promise to Appear and an Officer in Charge Undertaking and provided with a court date in April.

Nineteen-year-old Trevor Keith of Port Burwell is charged with the following: Theft under $5,000 from a Motor Vehicle – two counts – Section 334(b) Criminal Code of Canada.

A 17-year-old youth from Port Burwell is also charged with: Theft under $5,000 from a Motor Vehicle, two counts – Section 334(b) Criminal Code of Canada.

The youth charged in these matters will not be identified as per the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA).
